Dominikus Burghardt was born in Essen/Ruhr and studied piano at the universities of Essen, Hannover and Düsseldorf. Further intensive studies of song interpretation completed his education. He has worked as a soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, and as an ensemble member at home and abroad. He has participated in CD recordings and radio productions. For more than 20 years, he has been working as a lecturer for piano, role studies, and song interpretation at the academies of musical arts in Leipzig, Detmold, and Essen. During his studies in choral conducting, he has worked with Erwin Ortner, Volker Hempfling, and Raimund Wippermann.
He has been conducting the “Ratinger Kammerchor” since 2001. With this very choir, he led the German premiere of the opera “St. Kilda- Island of Birdmen” in Düsseldorf in 2007, for which he was awarded the “Scottish Event Award Glasgow” in 2008. Also in 2008, Burghardt initiated the well-known HugoDistlerCycle to celebrate the choir’s tenth anniversary. Concerts at the Philharmonie Essen and the Tonhalle Düsseldorf followed, as well as productions at the WDR radio and television.
In 2013, Burghardt has been awarded the official title “Director of Choir” by the federal association of German choirs and by the German association of professional choir conductors he has been recognized with the title “Musical Director”
